Pope Benedict XVI: Arrives in Benin, Africa

November 18, 2011. After a nearly six hour flight, the pope is now in Benin. He arrived at Cotonou's international airport, where he was greeted by president Thomas Yayi Boni and his wife Chantal. She welcomed the pope in French by saying “Beloved Holy Father.”

During the brief ceremony, the anthems of both the Holy See and Benin were played.

Friday afternoon, the pope will board the 'popemobile' and visit the Cathedral of Cotonou. Afterwards, he will rest at the Vatican's local embassy.
