Benedict XVI: Religious freedom for peace and development

Faced with the tragedies of poverty, hunger and migration, States must do more to ensure peace, prosperity and progress said Benedict XVI in his address Friday to new ambassadors to the Holy See from Ethiopia, Malaysia, Ireland, Fiji and Armenia. However, the Church also recalls that the greatest poverty stems from lack of love and concern for others, and a lack of respect for spiritual values and reference to God. Religion - added the Pope -- helps us to see our brother in humanity. Thus, allowing people the opportunity to know God helps to form a strong inner personality and witnesses to good who are devoted to the welfare of all people and the common good of society.
