Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela: Recovered the Codex Calixtinus, a 12th century Manuscript

Spanish police have recovered the Codex Calixtinus, a 12th century manuscript that was stolen one year ago from Spain's Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It was found in the small town of Milladoiro, near Santiago, wrapped in garbage bags in the garage of a local electrician.

The electrician had worked at the cathedral for 25 years and has been arrested on suspicion of theft. In addition to the codex, police found other items belonging to the cathedral and more than one million euros in cash.

The Codex Calixtinus is considered the first guide to popular pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James. Before it was stolen in July of 2011, it was located in the archives of the cathedral.
