Fr. Desmond Forristal of Dalkey, Dublin: Producer, Playwright has Died in Dublin following a long illness.

VETERAN RTE producer, playwright and parish priest Fr Desmond Forristal has died in Dublin following a long illness.

Fr Forristal (82) passed away at St Joseph's Centre, Crinken, in Shankill at 7.15pm last night.

A nursing home spokesperson said he "died peacefully" after his condition deteriorated over the last few days.

He was parish priest in Dalkey before he was admitted to the home 10 years ago.

Born in Dublin in 1930, Fr Forristal was ordained in 1955 and was best known for his work as part of the Radharc team, which produced films on religious topics for RTE.

Radharc was the country's first independent television production unit. Fr Forristal worked first as a writer and later a director.

Fr Forristal was also an author, and his plays were staged at the Abbey Theatre.
