Pilgrims cover St. Peter's Square to see Benedict XVI's Angelus

Vatican City, Italy - Long before Sunday's Angelus began, thousands of pilgrims made their way to St. Peter's Square, to witness Benedict XVI's last Angelus as Pope.

Surrounding streets were filled with tourists and pilgrims. Inside the square, signs that read 'Thank You' were visible. This is the Pope's first public appearance following the conclusion of his spiritual retreat which ended on Saturday.

The Pope's resignation becomes official on Thursday February 28th at 8:00pm Rome time.
