“Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life”. (Psalm 23)

Today’s first reading from Daniel seems to echo in some way yesterday’s Gospel about the woman caught in adultery.  Both these episodes are there to evidence God’s mercy that makes all things new if we accept it, and leads us to the truth about ourselves and about events.

The responsorial psalm further emphasizes this.  We have all experienced God’s goodness and fidelity throughout our life.  God’s constant love produces the good in our life.  His fidelity is the point of reference for the choices we are called to make.

God is both Father and Mother.  God nourishes us and heals us.  He wants us to be His courageous witnesses, solid like the rock.  We know in whom we have placed our trust, just like Susanna who cried to God and like the trusting sheep that follow their Shepherd because they know He will care for them each moment.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will bask in the warmth of God’s loving care.  I will thank Him for all He has done and does for me and all He will continue to do.  I will ask for the grace to be His faithful witness all the days of my life.
