“This is the will of the one who sent me that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day.” (John 6: 39)

Nothing of our person, of our body, of our story will be lost because God wills that nothing be lost.  This is incredible!  Every aspect of our condition is called to resurrection.  It is a total resurrection, like that of Christ, universal, cosmic, but also local, particular, and unique.  It is a resurrection that is latent, that waits and pulses throughout humanity, and that will arrive at completion.

Sick bodies, children who died, our truncated, demoralized, denigrated love stories, interior and exterior deformities, everyone’s fears and histories, our beauty and that of creation, the fidelity that sustains every relationship, intelligence and its fruits…everything will rise. Everything is already beginning to rise because all is called to new life.  All is called to remain forever. Everything is important and unforgettable in the eyes of God.  All is vital and called to live forever.

Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will thank God for gifting me and all of created reality with immortality, with the promise of new life that is a participation in the resurrection of Jesus.  I will let this hope sink deeply into my heart and mind.

..."Thank You, Lord, for your enduring love of life.  Redeem my pessimism; convert my will to Your vision of life.  Let every cell of my body and every atom of my story be pervaded by Your power and live by it, move in it, exist in it!"
