“I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14: 6)

In the context of an affectionate conversation of Jesus with His disciples, we find these words of splendid clarity, the deepest and richest of the Gospel.  We must not let it become banal through routine repetition that lacks life and vitality.

What we need to do is receive these words in the depths of our heart in all their richness and power for it is an expression that is highly relative to the identity of Jesus.  Jesus is the Way to go to the Father.  Remember that it is precisely the Father who is the source of all the good, true, and beautiful existing in the world.  Jesus is Truth.  He is the light of human truth and of all that has been created for Him.  Jesus is Life.  Our precious life that is already faced toward eternity will soon enter into joy unlimited, after having made us taste the pure joys of our life.

How can our heart not be dilated and our days not illumined in the brilliant atmosphere of these words?
Today in my pause for silent contemplation, I will repeat to Jesus over and over, “You are my Way, my Truth, and my Life!  I love You and I adore You, my Risen Savior!”

Lord, help me to center my existence in You as a response to Your gift of infinite energy for my deepest needs that sometimes cause me suffering because I am not fully oriented to You.
