I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God, since I betrothed you to one husband to present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11: 2)

From this point on in the second letter to the Corinthians, Paul is giving detailed answers to those who contest his apostolic authority. His tone is full of suffering, but it is also severe and precise, passionate and trustful.

While clarifying the deep motivations of his ministry, Paul confides to the Corinthians the reasons for his ‘foolishness’. He is fearful for them because they can be deceived by the various false ‘superapostles’ who through cunning and deception distance them from the Gospel and from Christ. Instead Paul has promised them to Christ and his every teaching, even though hard, has the aim of accompanying them on the right path. He is ready for anything, without holding back, so that they might remain on the road traced out by Jesus. He loves them! He walks with them, weak and strong at the same time, so that they too, at the appropriate time, may present other believers to Christ.
