Celebrated each year fifty days after Easter, Pentecost marks the day when the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and disciples in the form of tongues of fire, with the sound of a mighty rushing wind. The disciples prolaimed the mighty works of God boldly in the temple where devout Jews, coming from all over the known world, were astonished because each heard the words in his native tongue.
This event is referred to as the birthday of the Church. God undid the confused languages of Babel and gave birth to a new man, one body--the Body of Christ, his Church. This new creation will remain until our Lord comes again.
