Pope Benedict XVI: True peace is contemplating the Face of God

"Man is made for peace which is a gift of God," but how do we feel at peace, despite problems, difficulties and anxieties? This was the question posed by Benedict XVI Tuesday morning, at Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God and 46th World Day of Peace. He said we must contemplate the inner peace of Mary, which we ought to have amid the sometimes tumultuous and confusing events of history, events whose meaning we often do not grasp and which disconcert us. A peace that we receive, the Scripture tells us, in contemplating the splendour of God's face. Here, dear brothers and sisters, is the foundation of our peace: the certainty of contemplating in Jesus Christ the splendour of the face of God.
